Development Partners

International partners such as the World Bank, and other multilateral and bilateral donors. Currently the World Bank is the only financier of the IDEA program with a USD 2.48 overall financing envelope. The following has so far been supported:

  • COMESA with a grant support of USD 10 million
  • DRC with concessionary loan of USD 400 million.
  • Angola with a support of USD 300 million
  • Eswatini with a support of USD 65 million
  • Zambia with a support of USD 100 million.
  • Malawi with a support of USD 70 million.

However, other development patterns such as the EU, AfDB, UNICEF, ITU, AU, AfCFTA are engaged to support review and/or development of various regional policy and regulatory frameworks in a harmonized manner that will contribute to enhancing competition, improved access to cost effective and secure ICT services in the AFE and Indian Ocean region. Further, the prospect of co- funding the Project is within the horizon. They also like the World Bank, also possess knowledge of E&S management, and stakeholder engagement.

We seek to enhance the enabling environment for increasing access to and inclusive usage of the internet and to digitally-enabled services in Eastern and Southern Africa
